Dental Clinic Reform
Concepcion – CHILE
Associated with Paola Albornoz Architect
Transforming a house in a small Dental Clinic is the starting point of the request. The new plan layout is constrained by the structure, the challenge consist in optimize existing elements. For this building we focused our interest in developing a facade that was a contribution to the urban plot; a proportional vertical limit and suggestive to the pedestrian experience on the sidewalk.
We studied the elevations of the entire block and detected an ambiguous situation between two ways of building the façade on the checkerboard of the city: the “continuous solid ” and ” continuous void ” in the words of Rowe and Koetter .
The house we reformed did not resonate from any of these conditions. We decided to set the new facade to the neighbor building, restoring continuous facade of previous years. We exaggerated this condition setting glasses in the same line as walls, trying to cancel the proper “discontinuous ” shadow of the span. The only “footprint” on the facade is the stonework expressing horizontal structures (visual and constructive) that allow us to organize a tripartite order.
